YOGA AND PILATES FOR HEALTHY AND HAPPY OFFICES
London, Southampton
How is your company looking after its employees? Has it gone beyond refilling the coffee pot and serving them a box of glazed doughnuts?
Working in an office job, even though the work we carry out is mostly mental rather than physical, is very hard on the body as well as the mind. We were never meant to sit for hours on end in an artificial environment, in the same position, moving little else except for our wrists and fingers. The spine especially does not like sitting at a desk. Each year, many office workers are hospitalised or in some way incapacitated due to back pain. Stress is even higher on the list of causes for missed work. These absences are incredibly costly — the WHO has estimated that in the UK alone, companies lose more than 100 million workdays to back pain and 105 million days to stress, costing the UK businesses well over two billion pounds.
More and more companies are starting to recognize the benefits of looking after their employees’ physical and mental well-being. They provide standing or treadmill desks, ping-pong tables for a brief chill-out with a colleague, an in-house massage therapist or even, in the case of Google, nap pods and bicycles. They have come to learn that frequent physical activity is crucial for peak performance, lower stress levels, and overall greater health.
BraveBodies corporate yoga and Pilates classes, which we have been running since 2007 in the City of London and now also in the Southampton area, are tailored to target both back pain and stress. They promote healthy spine and joints, increase strength and mobility, calm the mind and, due to being low-impact, leave the employees energised instead of exhausted. They are also fun and foster good relationships among all who join. Employees especially love the convenience of being able to squeeze a proper workout into their busy day, without having to commute to other locations and take more time out of their evenings.
All BraveBodies teachers are highly qualified and accredited professionals with many years of experience who truly love their work.
If you are interested in running a lunchtime or before or after-hours yoga or Pilates class in the City of London, Greater London or Southampton, all you need is a bit of empty space in your office. The beauty of either yoga or Pilates is that not much is required to do them. All each person needs is a mat that is easily rolled up, and possibly a foam block and a band, also small and easily put away. An impromptu yoga or Pilates session can be set up in an unused boardroom or any other room where one has a bit of floor space available.

“Life changer….. I’ve gone from a cynic to a fan in six weeks, but after several months I now have more flexibility, stronger core and better posture than in the past ten years and it’s been much more beneficial than the gym and fitness alone.”
Alan B., Equity Trader
“I feel doing yoga has improved my flexibility and in only a few months I feel I have made a lot of progress. Exercising on a regular basis also makes me happier and releases my tensions from work. I am much less stressed at work than I was last year. In addition, it’s a nice outside of work activity to do with your colleagues.”
Emanuela, Investment Product Analyst
“I’ve attended lunchtime classes at work for over 5 years and they are an integral part of my exercise and wellbeing regime. Barbara is professional, extremely personable and very reliable. I would strongly recommend you try one of her taster sessions and see for yourself!”
Danielle O., Senior Team Manager
“I join BraveBodies yoga class every week, and have missed very few since it started at our company. I come away from the class feeling stretched and very relaxed, and have noticed over the time how I am more flexible and that my strength has grown. Each class is always enjoyable!”
